Chief Investment Officer

Jim R. Hille, CFA, CAIA

James R. Hille was appointed the first Chief Investment Officer of Texas Christian University in May 2006. Formerly he was the Chief Investment Officer of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas, a $100 billion public pension plan. From 1992 to 1995, he managed portfolios for the Employees Retirement System of Texas. From 1990 to 1992, Mr. Hille worked as an assistant to the international portfolio manager at a large family office in Fort Worth while earning an MBA in finance from TCU. With a BS in engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy class of 1983, Mr. Hille served for six years as a Marine Corps officer. He has served as president of the Austin Society of Financial Analysts, and an adjunct finance professor for the University of Texas McCombs School of Business. Mr. Hille is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst.

Director of Alternative Assets

M. Keith Garrison, CPM

M. Keith Garrison is the Director of Alternative Assets for the Texas Christian University Endowment, a position he has held since November 2007. He is responsible for directing the investment process for private equity, real estate, and other private market investments including policy/strategy development, due diligence underwriting, and portfolio management. Target allocations for alternatives include 13% for Private Equity, 4% for Real Estate, 10% for minerals and energy, and 6% for Opportunistic. Mr. Garrison worked for the Teacher Retirement System of Texas since September 1989 serving as a real estate asset manager, chief asset manager, Director of Real Estate and, at the time of his departure, Director of Private Markets. His prior experience includes lending positions with two commercial banks in the Austin area. Mr. Garrison earned a BBA in finance from the University of Texas at Austin in 1980 and the Certified Property Manager designation from the Institute of Real Estate Management in 1998.

Senior Asset Manager

Jason R. Safran, CFA

Jason R. Safran is the senior asset manager for TCU’s Endowment and is responsible for researching and evaluating investment opportunities across asset classes. He joined TCU’s endowment team in August 2012. Mr. Safran began his career as a research associate with John McStay Investment Counsel, an equity investment boutique. After business school, he joined Cimarron Asset Management, an institutional advisory firm specializing in the management of relative-value portfolios. Following a merger, he served as portfolio manager for Smith Asset Management, L.P. responsible for relative-value equity strategies. Prior to joining TCU, he was a senior investment analyst for Texas Capital Bank. Mr. Safran earned his MBA from the University of Texas at Austin in 2006 and his BBA in finance and minor in economics from TCU in 2001. Mr. Safran is a chartered financial analyst and has served as a director for the CFA Society of Dallas-Ft. Worth.

Senior Investment Analyst

Lauren Farrelly Searway

Lauren Farrelly Searway is the senior analyst for the TCU endowment. She is responsible for researching and evaluating investment opportunities across asset classes. Prior to joining TCU, Ms. Searway was a senior analyst for Prudential Capital Group’s Dallas-based Energy Finance Group. Previously, she worked for Congresswoman Kay Granger and the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. Ms. Searway graduated from TCU magna cum laude as a John V. Roach Honors College Laureate with a BBA in finance. She earned her MBA from the Neeley School of Business.

Investment Operations Coordinator

Alaina M. Parker

Alaina M. Parker is the Investment Operations Coordinator for Texas Christian University’s Endowment. She earned her BBA from TCU’s Neeley School of Business in 2000 and has been working in the Investment office since 2006. She is responsible for office operations reporting and cash flows, Investment Committee coordination, the annual Endowment audit, and executive assistance.
